Hot Spots: The Emerald Pool and Trafalgar Falls
- Trafalgar Falls: These side-by-side falls cascade 200 feet down into a spectacular pool of their own making, ideal for experiencing nature's best back massage.
- Emerald Pool: It gets its name from all the greenery around its base, reflecting in the water, although the fact that it is a jewel could have a lot to do with it.
- Sightseeing drive: Your tour includes a guided drive through the capital and the beautiful botanical gardens. Then sit back and enjoy the natural beauty of Dominica.
About this Roseau tour
Dominica packs a lot of natural wonders into its 290 square miles: 365 rivers, 15 waterfalls, nine volcanoes, virgin rainforests, a boiling lake, 50 fumaroles and hot springs, as well as countless geothermal bubblers. But there's a lot of history, too.
Proposed as a forest reserve in 1952, its Morne Trois Pitons area was designated a National Park in 1975, and a UNESCO World Heritage Sight in 1998. As a specialized agency of the United Nations, its World Heritage Sites are places of special cultural or physical significance. Morne Trois Pitons National Park is Dominica's only such site. When you visit you’ll see why. It’s name means “mountain of three peaks” and you’ll be amazed at the views.
The park is a hot bed, literally, for volcanic activity on the island. But you’ll be nice and cool when we stop of a dip in the Emerald Pool. This jewel will be a highlight of the tour. So, feel free to enjoy and relax. You’re on vacation.
Before Columbus found and named the place, it had already been discovered. The Igneri, stone age tribe from South America's Orinoco Valley, arrived around 3000 B.C. Then came the Kalinago (Island Caribs) around 1000 A.D. Noting the island's mountainous terrain, the Caribs named the island Wai'tukubuli, meaning tall is her body.
Staying at a hotel or on a cruise ship, please meet the dispatcher outside the Visitor Information Center, opposite the Cruise Terminal. They will have a sign with your name on it. Docking at Woodridge Bay? Meet outside the Security Gate, on the right.
Bring a change of clothing. Trafalgar Falls includes a 10-minute hike over roughly 0.25 miles through the rainforest to reach the observation platform.
Involves walking to the natural sites over varying terrain with inclines and uneven surfaces. Due to the nature of this activity, it is not suitable for travelers who utilize canes, walkers or wheelchairs.
