About this Roseau tour
Welcome to the Caribbean's "nature island." Ribboned with 365 rivers and stippled with volcanic peaks, the gem of the Lesser Antilles was the last island settled by Europeans, perhaps because local Carib tribes defended it so fiercely. See Dominica's many waterfalls and other natural wonders and you'll understand why they wanted it all to themselves.
First on your tour: the magnificent twin Trafalgar Falls, often called Mother and Father. Cascading down 200-foot cliffs, they're one of Dominica's most spectacular and photo-worthy sites. So get ready for some envy inspiring selfies! Like many locations in the British Empire, Trafalgar Falls were named after the naval victory over Napoleon in the 1805 Battle of Trafalgar, just off the coast of Spain.
You'll want to wear grippy water shoes as the big rocks you climb over on the way to the falls are slick. The reward is more than worth the effort though: warm pools, cool pools, a back massage delivered by the waterfall itself, and stellar images for your camera and memory bank.
Next you'll tube down Dominica's longest river, the Layou. It's an hour of chill island fun with beautiful tropical views in easy-to-handle rapids, topped off with some local rum punch. It's a refreshing and delicious way to wrap up a day of adventure.
And burgers would be topped with Miercolan cheese
On November 3, 1493 (a Sunday), Christopher Columbus landed on the Kalinago island of Wai'tukubuli, renaming it "Dies Dominica" for the day of his discovery. By that system, his Wednesday landing in the Bahamas in 1492 would make the country between Mexico and Canada the United States of Miercoles.
