About this San Juan tour
Rainforests seem like exotic, far-off mysteries out of picture books and movies, but did you know there's one right in America's backyard? El Yunque is the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System, and this tour brings you into the heart of its mysteries.
You'll begin your expedition with a ride to the top of El Yunque, catching a glimpse of the wonders to come from high above. Then you're ready to discover El Yunque's lush plants, hardwood trees, rivers, waterfalls, birds, and lizards.
Your guides give you background on the 200 species of trees and plants here (23 of which are found nowhere else) as well as the history behind this magnificent rainforest. Try to spot the critically endangered Puerto Rican parrot – there are only around 60 left in the wild. Hear the rustling of leaves, the scurrying of animals, and the whisper that gradually turns into the roar of La Mina Falls.
This 50-foot waterfall, fueled by the more than 200 inches of annual rainfall in El Yunque, is your break point. Take a load off and refuel with a snack. You can even take a dip in the pool around the cascading waters. El Yunque doesn't reveal all its mysteries in one day, but this moment of tranquility and natural beauty is enough to remember for a lifetime.
On behalf of the boas, thank you
