About this Hvar tour
Seize the day (well, half day at least) to tour an idyllic island before the rest of the world arrives. Hvar is the new darling of Croatia's stunning Dalmatian Coast. This region's nascent travel industry simply disappeared when civil war erupted in 1991. Now conflict feels eons away, visitors have returned, and tourism is blossoming like the island's abundant lavender.
Leave the paved roads behind and be among the first to tour Hvar's lovely landscapes. Breathe in the fragrance of pine forests and the herbs – heather, lavender, laurel, and rosemary – that flourish all over the island. Wander eerily tranquil stone villages, some abandoned like Malo Grablje, where memories linger in the ruins of a church, old mill, homes, and water cisterns.
We'll climb to the very peak of Saint Nicholas for panoramic, unobstructed 360-degree views all the way to the neighboring islands. On the sun-drenched slopes below Saint Nicholas you'll see the traditional village of Sveta Nedija, vineyards clambering over the hills, and silvery groves of olive trees. It's an ethereal vista.
Go where no motor coach goes. Venture where no rental car can. Get to know secret places with a GoBe guide who knows and loves the island. And do it all in the comfort of our four-wheel-drive vehicles. This is the unforgettable day when you find what most people miss.
These villagers left nothing behind
Against a backdrop of cliffs sits the lonely 16th-century village of Malo Grablje. Locals left here in 1950s, seeking jobs and economic stability. You can almost hear the stone shells of their homes whisper tales from the past. In the cemetery are open graves because villagers took their dead with them when they left. Spooky. But at last, there's a sign of life among the ruins – a tiny restaurant has opened. Hope the ghosts don't mind company.
Make your way to the Main City Square (Trg sv.Stjepana 42), in front of the information office to meet with your GoBe representative with the logo sign.
