The small French town of Bayeux in Lower Normandy is particularly famous for two battles and a Tapestry. The Bayeux Tapestry ambitiously chronicles the conquest of England by William the Conqueror AKA the Duke of Normandy, in 1066. It's also the near the site of the battle of Normandy where nearly nine hundred years later Bayeux became the first place in France to be liberated from the Nazis, making Bayeux and its nearby beaches great vantage points from which to explore and learn about WWII and D-Day history.
