About this Bonn Tour
Baroque. Romanesque. Gothic. The architecture of Bonn is symbolic of the harmonious blend of cultures, interests, and styles that make up this diverse city. You'll soon realize that every building, bridge, and garden has a story, and you just so happen to have a fantastic storyteller as your guide. How much you want to hear is completely up to you, as you control the pace of this private, guided tour.
Wherever you go, you'll be surrounded by great minds. With the magnificent Poppelsdorf Chateau serving as the main home for the University of Bonn, and over 350 more buildings peppered along the avenue and throughout the city, it's safe to say the campus for this famous university extends to the city limits.Behind the University is the historic Old Town Hall, a building with a decorated rococo facade which houses the offices and representative rooms of the mayor.
As you head south through the residential area of Sudstadt, you'll come across the stately and largely intact homes of the pre-War middle class with their wrought iron fences and leafy chestnut trees. One of the most famous homes you'll see is the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven, which still houses many of his personal letters and other belongings.
Along the way, you'll pass Minster Cathedral. A visit to this famous cathedral, with its soaring Gothic spires, Baroque furnishings, Romanesque sculptures, as well as a host of paintings, murals, and other works of art, is like an art history lesson in and of itself.
If you haven't had your fill of history yet, the tour will end at the town museum, where you're welcome to go inside to learn more about the history of Bonn (5€ entrance p.p.). No matter how much ground you cover, you're sure to fall under the spell of this beautiful ancient city.
Yummy gummy bear
Bonn resident Hans Riegel ran a small confectionary company out of his home (named Haribo, for Hans Riegel Bonn). In 1922, inspired by seeing trained bears at German festivals, he had an idea to take this animal, which everyone loved, and turn it into a tasty treat. So he went home and started on a new creation: a fruity, gummy, dancing bear. The bears were (and are) a big hit! If Haribo took all the gummy bears it produces in a year and lined them up, they would circle the planet four times.
Please make your own way to the front of Hotel Bristol, Poppelsdorfer Allee / Prinz-Albert-Str. Please look for our GoBe Representative with the displayed logo sign.
