About this Livorno Tour
Ever dreamed of riding along the Italian coastline, carefree and uninhibited? This GoBe tour offers you a real taste of Tuscany, a region famous for its striking scenery and incredible cuisine. Equipped with an electric bicycle that makes getting around not only fast, but easy, you can discover the port city of Livorno in a unique way.
First, you'll explore Livorno and get a feel for its deep history. Then, you'll be whisked by rail to the idyllic Tuscan village of Bolgheri. Immerse yourself in the pristine natural surroundings of Tuscany as you always imagined it. Tall cypress trees swaying in the breeze, gnarled olive groves, and vineyards nestled in the lush countryside await.
Finally, you'll get a chance to taste the wine, the fruits of the vine at the heart of Bolgheri's cultural identity. Since the advent of Super Tuscan wines in the 1960s, Bolgheri has been at the forefront of Tuscany's wine economy. One sip and you'll see why. Each Bolgheri red wine is aged for at least ten months, with the highest quality wines aged for two years before they can be tasted. The land is intimately connected with the success of Bolgheri's wine. In fact, the grapes that go into Bolgheri wines are not even listed on the bottle in many cases, since the land is more indicative of the wine's character.
After enjoying lunch and some of Tuscany's best wine, your appreciation for Italian cuisine and culture will grow almost as large as the cypress trees that line the way into Bolgheri.
One of the most breathtaking features of Bolgheri is the long road lined by cypress trees that leads into the village. If you feel like taking up a pen and composing a poem when you see it, you won't be in bad company. In 1874, Giosue Carducci wrote a poem called "Before San Guido" based on this epic view. It may bode well if you do feel inspired. Carducci went on to become the first Italian to win a Nobel Prize in Literature.
