About This Naples Tour
This breathtaking town that straddles the cliffs overlooking the water to Naples and Mount Vesuvius is both a very civilized and beautiful town, unfolding over rugged cliffs that climb steeply from the Mediterranean Sea, creating splendid views of the colorful marina and sparkling ocean You will enjoy browsing through its many beautiful and quaint old shops which sell souvenirs, ceramics and lacework.. A good base for exploring surrounding areas, Sorrento offers something for everyone.
Homer’s poetic saga of sailors being called by the irresistible song of the sirens seems a plausible tale, given that Sorrento is indeed a magical place that seduces virtually anyone who comes within sight of its shores.
One of the most visited destinations of the last 250 years, the ruins at Pompeii provide a fascinating glimpse into ancient Roman life, with the city's artifacts, frescoes, and theaters nearly left nearly intact.
Successive pyroclastic waves of gas and ash were the kiss of death for Pompeii's inhabitants, their bodies frozen in the instant of their earthly demise. Archaeologists have uncovered and restored over 1,000 bodies, along with thousands of artifacts offering a detailed depiction of ancient Roman life.
Pompeii was first rediscovered in 1599, when architect Domenico Fontana unearthed frescoes and pottery at the site. He deemed the sexual content depicted on these works so obscene that he covered them with dirt and pretended he never found them. They were eventually found and brought to a museum, but never displayed until recently.
