About This Sokhna Tour
What a difference a half-hour makes. Just a short drive from the hustle and bustle of Egypt's high-energy capital awaits a land of white sand beaches, turquoise waters, exquisite coral, and beautifully colorful marine life. This is where many of Cairo's successful and wealthy residents escape to for a weekend retreat, or sometimes just to get away for the day. This is El Sokhna.
The name "El Sokhna" means "hot spring" in Arabic – and it's derived from its proximity to the natural sulfur springs of nearby Gabal Ataka Mountain in the Eastern Dessert. If the beauty and tranquility of this resort aren't therapy enough, the region's natural resources just may be. It's long been believed that sulfur and mineral springs play a role in curing various diseases. They call it "therapeutic tourism." You'll call it "just what the doctor ordered."
With average air temperatures of 77 degrees Fahrenheit, sea temperatures in the 70s or 80s, and less than .6 inches of rainfall all year, this resort area is always in-season. When you go, don't forget to bring your camera to capture the beautiful colors of the green-blue water, pink coral, and multi-colored fish. Oh, and you just might catch a pod of dolphins dancing in and out of the water.
Pristine beaches. Luxury resorts. Perfect weather. And proximity to the Eastern Desert. It's no wonder El Sokhna has become such a popular vacation destination. So close to the history and excitement of Cairo, yet a world away.
Drink like an Egyptian
Egyptians had many rituals for both the living and the dead. Many of them had one thing in common – beer. Beer was used during sacrifices, worship, and even as a form of currency. Every Egyptian was entitled to a certain ration of beer a day. For instance, a queen received two crocks of beer and ten loaves of bread every day. A princess got the same amount of bread but only one crock of beer. But today, you wont have that problem, just start a tab.
Please exit the port terminal building or go to the end of the tender pier drop-off to meet your guide. Look for our displayed logo sign. Staying at a hotel? Be sure to advise the GoBe Crew so we can meet you in the lobby.
Food and drink are available to purchase at the resort. The weather is hot and the sun is strong; come prepared and slather on the sunscreen. Although sunbeds and umbrellas are provided, they are available on a first-come basis.
Walking is at your own pace and the amount is at each person's discretion. Expect sandy, unpaved surfaces. You must be able to get in/out of the van without assistance or with help of a companion. Vehicle is not equipped with a wheelchair lift.
