      About This Safaga Tour

Behind you is the serene backdrop of desert mountains. Stretching before you are the azure waters of Soma Bay. You're relaxing at a luxury resort in a style that befits the ancient pharaohs. And if one those pharaohs popped up from the past to sunbathe with you, he might spy a building that seems familiar.

You thought this was just a trip to the beach. But you're visiting a stunning resort that blends magnificent ancient Egyptian architecture with modern-day luxe. The resort's dramatic design is inspired by Luxor's magnificent Karnak Temple. This temple, the colossal pyramids, the Great Sphinx of Giza, and other ancient sites endure as examples of ancient Egyptian splendor – and continue to inspire modern-day architects.

Karnak, dating from 2055 B.C., was one of ancient Egypt's most sacred sites with complex hieroglyphs and reliefs carved in the temple walls. A place of worship, Karnack was Ipet-isut (the most select of places). Ancient sites have also inspired the Las Vegas Luxor Hotel, the dramatic glass pyramid that welcomes art lovers to Paris' Louvre, and the Egyptian Hall at Harrods, London's ritzy department store.

We'll leave you with those thoughts about history and architecture as you enjoy the resort. Revel in worshipping the sun and sea. You're in one of modern Egypt's "most select of places."

Why this azure sea is red

It's likely the bluest water you've ever seen, so why is it called the Red Sea? One theory says it's due to a reddish organism that sometimes bloomed close to the water's surface. Another theory says it was about the Sea's location in the south of the ancient world, when the language used color to describe direction. Black was north, green was east, white was west, and red was south. Our theory? Red sea, golden sand, blue sky. Perfect.
