About This Safaga Tour
Get ready to dive deep into an undersea Garden of Eden. The Red Sea is home to hundreds of types of hard and soft coral and more than 2,000 fish species. Many of these are extraordinary and striking species you'll find nowhere else on the planet.
On this adventure, you'll explore a unique, extremely tolerant ecosystem. Formed over 50 million years ago when the Arabian Peninsula split from the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea is surrounded by one of the world's hottest and driest areas. And because there aren't any significant rivers or streams infusing it with fresh water, it's one of the world's saltiest (averaging 40 percent salinity) and warmest (average temperature is 72 degrees Fahrenheit) bodies of water.
The submarine carries you smoothly to areas that are famed as spectacular locations for recreational diving. But forget about seeing the undersea sights through a tiny facemask. You'll enjoy views through panoramic windows as you sit back and relax while your sea-savvy guide shows you the wonders of this underwater ecosystem.
With its crystal-clear waters, golden beaches, and sunny climate, it's no surprise this popular resort area of Egypt is called the "Red Sea Riviera." Visitors bask in its natural beauty and many attractions. But beauty is more than surface-deep here. As you'll discover, the real splendor lies deep in the Red Sea's waters.
I'd like to be under the sea…
Jacques Cousteau produced the 1964 Academy Award-winning World Without Sun, a documentary about oceanauts living below the Red Sea in a starfish-shaped habitat. The film explored the practicality of undersea habitats – an idea eventually renounced by Cousteau, who devoted himself to conservation. After this film, the starfish was out of the bag. The world discovered the Red Sea as one of the planet's best diving locations.
