About This Boston Tour
This is one great big fishbowl – and it's swirling with thousands of colorful and fascinating creatures ready to captivate your imagination. Come and "sea" what it's all about at the biggest attraction on Boston's waterfront.
If you're up for a close encounter, come fingers to fins with sharks (and rays) at the Aquarium's mangrove-themed Shark and Ray Touch Tank. Reach out and gently stroke epaulette sharks, cownose rays, and Atlantic rays as they swim close by. You'll also learn how these incredible species help create a healthy ecosystem and why it's vital to preserve their coastal habitats.
Challenge yourself at the Seadragon Exhibit. Only two seadragon species exist in the world, and if you look hard, you'll see them both here. The trick is they're exceptionally good at camouflage to hide from hungry predators. Laugh out loud at the penguins' capers. Be amazed as charismatic seals and sea lions show off their smarts and strength. And be mesmerized as ethereal jellyfish perform enthralling underwater dances.
Dip into aquatic adventures around every corner – and the Aquarium's passion for conservation too. Check out the Blue Planet Action Center, learn how the Rescue Team saves endangered turtles, and visit the Shark Nursery and the Lobster Nursery where little creatures hatch and develop. All the undersea world is here – just dive in and explore its wonders.
You must meet Myrtle
The 24-foot-tall Giant Ocean Tank is home to more than a thousand creatures, but Myrtle is the undisputed queen. This green sea turtle is almost 90 years old, weighs more than 500 pounds, and has lived at the Aquarium since 1970. You might see the old gal on her preferred napping spot, on top of corals about halfway down the exhibit. How do we know that's her favorite spot? She shared it with fans on her very own Facebook page.
