About this Boston, Massachusetts tour
In sharp contrast to the Spirit's modern interior are the historic (and some ironically named) sites you'll cruise by. Look, there's the USS Constitution aka Old Ironside, which is actually made of wood. Docked nearby is the USS Cassin Young, a long-retired destroyer that survived numerous kamikaze attacks during WWII. And over here is Fort Independence, situated on Castle Island (an isle that is, in fact, attached to the mainland).
Ever hear of the Big Dig? It was a $1 billion+ highway project undertaken to ease traffic woes in Boston and you'll cruise right under the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge, a big part of the Big Dig. If you love bridges, you'll be treated to another engineering marvel with the Tobin Bridge, which supports 85,000 vehicles daily. You also want to keep watch for the soaring spire of Old North Church, the site of McKay Shipyard, and other tweet-home-about attractions.
Hungry for more? Descend on a lavish spread showcasing fresh salads, savory entrees, plus an array of decadent desserts. Enjoy the music as the DJ breaks out a collection of top-40 hits, challenge your shipmates to a friendly game, or head to the open-air rooftop lounge for stunning views.
And there you are. Right at the center of it all the dramatic sites, tasty cuisine, and throng of partiers. Because it's just never been easier to get into the spirit of things as you cruise around Boston's Inner Harbor.
So what's the star of the skyline?
More than 250 high-rises compete for space in Boston's skies. The city's tallest structure is the striking 60-story John Hancock Tower. With 13 acres of gleaming glass, this modernist building boldly reflects the city it towers above. But early in its planning phases, citizens put this showstopper in its place. Its design had to be reworked when Bostonians learned it might cast a shadow on their beloved and historic Trinity Church.
