About this Juneau, Alaska tour
This is a flight right into the soul of Alaska. Board a 10-seat classic DeHavilland turbine engine seaplane (they're essential here in "The Last Frontier") and soar beyond the city to the shimmering Juneau Icefield and its five majestic glaciers.
With a guaranteed window seat, you'll see ancient glaciers that are remnants of an ice age that began 2.5 million years ago. You'll witness how these huge and powerful rivers of ice razed forests, sculpted valleys, and left behind a litter of moraine. You're viewing one of the planet's most amazing landscapes. Sorry, but you do have to come back down to earth.
You'll land with a river as your "runway." You've arrived at Taku Glacier Lodge – and it's going to be an adventure. Since the 1920s, the lodge has welcomed guests eager to explore Alaska. It's been a popular hunting and fishing camp and the place famous for breeding the Taku River Huskie sled dogs. If that wasn't enough, it's on the National Registry of Historic Places. Now it welcomes you to enjoy a hearty meal and admire views of the five-mile-wide Taku Glacier across the river.
Your drink is chilled with glacier ice and you may see bears as you dine. Yes, you are in the wilderness. The food is homemade and authentic Alaska: fresh wild King Salmon grilled to perfection, (it's the alderwood grill aroma that attracts bears) or a chicken alternative, served with all the fixings: Taku baked beans, coleslaw, pioneer fruit compote, fresh herb biscuits and sourdough bread, plus special-recipe ginger cookies for dessert. After you eat, take a stroll on the nature trail. Or just soak a little more Alaska soul into yours.
Please proceed to 2 Marine Way #175, a cabin-like office at the heart of the Juneau harbor. Located above the only downtown float plane docks, and in front of the large blue Merchants Wharf Building.
During your flight your audio guide is offered in English. Written language guides are offered in Arabic, Catalan, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.
Be sure to dress for the day's weather conditions.
Wheelchair access to the floatplanes can be provided. Planes can be accessed by steps or a ramp with handrails. Travelers must be able to step into the plane.
