      About this Kahului, Hawaii tour

Mount Haleakala is well known for its sunrise tours, but we think a sunset tour offers an air of romance and peacefulness (and no 4:00 a.m. wake-up call). This tour begins with a trip up The House of the Sun from sea level all the way up to 10,000 feet. Don't forget to pack a sweater as the summit temps can drop down to 40 degrees no matter how balmy it is on the beach.

Enjoy a stop at the Maui Lavender Farm where more than 45 varieties of lavender grow alongside olive trees, hydrangea, native Protea and succulents sure to delight all of your senses. The next stop is at 7,000 feet at the Kipahulu Ranger Station to stretch your legs and take in the sights before continuing up to the visitor center at 10,000 feet. Here you will see the staggering crater that has a circumference of 22 miles – that's big enough to fit all of Manhattan!

The setting sun paints the skies in red, orange, and gold and the cascading colors reflect off the Pacific Ocean and the Maui lowlands. The top of the mountain rests above the clouds so a stunning view is possible in any weather. Once the sun has concluded its evening performance, head over to the famous Café O Lei to close out an amazing adventure. Inspiring views, breathtaking sunsets and the natural colors of our stunning planet can all be found and appreciated on this GoBe experience.

      Nature's workshop

Ancient Hawaiians did not venture up to Haleakala very often, reserving the sacred grounds for their spiritual leaders, or kahuna. In 1907, adventurer Jack London made one of the first "tourist" visits and was shocked by the eerie silence at the top of the mountain. He said the crater contained the "raw beginnings of world-making." Today, people trek up the mountain every day – no need to be a big kahuna.
