About This Ketchikan Tour
Take to the treetops for a tour that packs a huge slice of the Last Frontier into one exciting expedition: A coastal drive to a pristine rainforest preserve. A chance to see bears and forest creatures in the wild. And an adrenaline-pumping adventure that's a true Alaskan experience.
Your elation builds as you fly through the trees along 6,000 feet of high-tension cables. Expert guides ease you into the canopy (and boost your confidence) along zip-lines ranging from a short 100 feet to the 850-foot, pulse-pounding "Ben's Revenge." (Ask your guide for the story behind that daunting name.) The sights and challenges are a rush for everyone – even those adrenaline junkies who can't ever get enough.
Thrill to the wild beauty of the virgin forest as you cross three suspension bridges, see jaw-dropping views of Herring Cove, and keep a lookout for black bears that gather to feed along Eagle Creek. All your senses are heightened as the final zip-line emerges from the rainforest and soars over lush, grassy wetlands to a viewing tower 55 feet above ground. Descend to camp, kick back with a well-earned snack, and celebrate your zip-mastery with a medal.
Be sure to check out your personal action photo that's available for purchase – that's you on an adrenaline high. You can also look an eagle in the eye as you learn how birds of prey are rehabilitated at the Raptor Center. And watch in amazement as a native artisan transforms a cedar log into a totem pole that tells his people's stories. These adventures add even more zip to a day already filled with it.
Real fishing, no reel needed
Ketchikan is "The Salmon Capital of the World," and Eagle Creek is one of Alaska's richest salmon spawning streams. That's what attracts the bears and, with a little luck, you'll see them fishing. They have a wide range of styles – stand and wait, snorkel, dash and grab, and more. Whatever it takes. A large male bear often catches and eats more than 30 fish a day to put on the fat needed to see him through months of hibernation.
