About this Key West, Florida tour
It's just like having an all-day limo driver who knows all the local hotspots, tells jokes and stories, and picks you up whenever you're ready to go on to your next stop. Except for the limo part. But hey, a trolley car's way cheaper than a limo. And even longer.
With its friendly guide/drivers and 13 stops arranged throughout the city, the much-beloved Old Town Trolley fleet offers both an outstanding "tour experience" and a constant transport system that lets you explore Key West freestyle, at your own pace.
Stay aboard for the full 90-minute loop and you'll have learned a great deal about sea-going railroads, spongers, wreckers, Cuban cigar rollers, multi-toed cats, visiting Presidents who stuck around, Calusa warriors who left their enemies bones bleaching on the beaches, abandoned Civil War forts, Bahamian shipbuilders turned homebuilders, writers and artists who called this home, seaplanes and hurricanes and sailing ships, and…. lots more.
Along the way, you'll pass by or near dozens of places you'll want to jump off and explore. The Aquarium. The Shipwreck Museum. The Little White House. The Overseas Railway Museum. Duval Street's cavalcade of shops, restaurants, and bars. The Audubon House, Hemingway House, Oldest House, Lighthouse, Southernmost Point, Butterfly and Nature Conservancy…and way more than we have room to list here.
Pick your next destination, hop off, and check things out. Soon as you're ready, just re-board and it's on with the tour. Repeat as necessary. This could go on forever. Well, ok, not quite forever. But a long time.
Papa's kitty's got a secret weapon
Ernest Hemingway's persona was always larger-than-life. So were the six-toed paws of his cat, Snowball, the good luck gift of a sea captain years ago. When you visit the Hemingway House, you'll meet a number of Snow's direct and indirect descendants, many of whom still have more toes than usual. The polydactyl gene trait is a stubborn one, but harmless. In fact, the cats kinda like it – those extra claws come in handy for catching lizards. And other tasty things.
