About this Los Angeles, California tour
Enter a world where everything is almost as it seems.
You walk into a room, an elaborate set draped in glamour. You bump into someone. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't see you there," you say. The woman, strangely dressed, doesn't reply. She doesn't move, either. When you step around to see her face, you discover it's Beyonce, fabulously posed and not acknowledging your existence nothing out of the ordinary. But then you notice Johnny Depp, Will Smith, and Angelina Jolie, all perfectly still. What sorcery is this? Welcome to Madame Tussauds.
Over 800 hours of molding, painting, and sculpting goes into each wax figure. The sculptors aim not to merely copy their subjects but to blur the line between imitation and reality. Come dance this line at Madame Tussauds, where the difference between strange and familiar is almost imperceptible and your wildest fantasies mingle with the world around you.
Blow a kiss to the Biebs, but be discrete as Selena Gomez is here, too. Spit your hottest verse with Snoop Dogg, or see if you have what it takes to go toe-to-toe with Kobe Bryant here in Los Angeles, the Black Mamba's home court.
And what would Hollywood be without its movie directors? Discuss the classics with Steven Spielberg, or talk Kung Fu movies with Quentin Tarantino. Some of Tinseltown's masters of cinema and its brightest stars are waiting for you here, but no need to try to impress by showing up fashionably late: They aren't going anywhere.
The French Revolution made Marie Tussaud's career, but it almost killed her first. Slated for execution as an enemy of the revolution, she was reprieved at the last minute. Afterward, she would sort through the baskets beneath the guillotines for the heads of the most prominent victims, then make wax death masks that were paraded around Paris as trophies of the people's triumph. One of her first attractions was called the "Chamber of Horrors."
