About this Savannah, Georgia tour
For all of its beauty, Savannah has a rather gruesome history of suicides, murders, scandals, and jilted lovers and that makes it a breeding ground for ghostly residents thus the notoriety of being the most haunted city in America.
Keeping track of all the spectral residents and scary ghouls said to haunt the city, would require a scorecard and a lot of time. Plus, there are many versions of the "truth" about how they all met with their demise and Anna Powers' story is no different. She is likely Savannah's most famous ghost, probably because she still interacts with so many visitors.
When Anna was a young woman, she fell in love with an English sailor and married him, but that's where things, and her story, fall apart. Nobody knows what went wrong, but something drove Anna to leap (Or was she pushed?) to her death from one of the windows of what is now the 17Hundred90 Inn and Restaurant. This room is a favorite request of overnight visitors hoping to meet Miss Anna. Guests record their ghostly encounters in a notebook on the bedside table.
As you embark on this spooky tour, who knows what spirits you might meet, and if they'll be friendly or scary. Just know that you've been warned to expect the unexpected.
All cats are spooky
Not all of the ghosts in Savannah are of the human variety. There's even a tale of a ghostly cat running wild at the Davenport House, where visitors have spotted it running from room to room, or sitting on a windowsill. Some even feel the furry feline rubbing up against their legs, but when they look down, there's nothing there. Purr-fectly spooky!
