About this Seward, Alaska Tour
A chunk breaks off the massive glacial ice face with a roar, it plummets into the bay, spray shoots skyward, and waves thrash the water's surface. This is "white thunder," the birth of an iceberg. On this adventure, you may feel the euphoria of witnessing this powerful force of nature as we cruise in to view Holgate Glacier, the park's most actively calving glacier.
More thrills are in store as we cruise through the waters along with orca and humpback whales. Step on the boat's viewing deck or settle into its snug interior to keep watch. Don't worry, your captain and guide won't let you miss a thing, especially if there's a humpback about to breach right out of the water. Grab those binoculars we keep onboard and zoom right in on one of the planet's most majestic creatures.
Keep those binocs handy for a close look at the acrobatic Dall's porpoises that like to run circles around our vessel or the harbor seals that peep their heads out of the water to take a peek at you. Scan the shore for Sitka blacktail deer and mountain goats waiting to surprise and enchant you. Smile as puffins strut their stuff on bright orange feet and feel your heart soar right along with those bald eagles overhead.
You come aboard Spirit of Adventure to explore Alaska's pristine nature, to see its creatures wild and free in the beauty of the Last Frontier. And you'll return after a journey that's the most-amazing-ever adventure for your spirit.
Pure proof from the Last Frontier
Alaska has about 100,000 glaciers covering 28,000 square miles. You'd think ice would be free for the taking, but "glacier harvesting" requires a permit. The ice harvested from calving glaciers is highly prized because it was frozen long before modern civilization polluted the atmosphere. The pure water is used to make boutique distillery products, including a smoked salmon flavored vodka. Perhaps that one's an acquired Alaskan taste.
