About this Skagway, Alaska tour
Roads? We don’t need no freakin’ roads. Your adventure begins in Skagway, long known as the “Gateway to the Klondike.” Skagway is steeped in the rich history of the Gold Rush. Explore centuries-old bars, legendary brothels, and dozens of other fascinating buildings from the late 19th century. There you will board a helicopter, which will carry you over Skagway, through the Alaskan wilderness, and to a remote scenic glacier.
The tours are customized to fit the day’s conditions and weather, so it’s rare that any two tours are the same. After an extensive viewing of the wilderness and glaciers by air, you’ll have the opportunity to tour them on foot. Your guide will be by your side, pointing out areas of interest, and sharing information about the glacier’s history and movements.
By both air and land, you’ll experience the stunning beauty of a remote glacier. Ever ride in a helicopter? How about walking on a glacier? On this tour, you’ll have the opportunity to knock off two bucket list items in one epic trip.
Labor of love
In 1905, Alaska’s first ever automobile was built in Skagway. In fact, it was built by an 18-year-old boy who had never even seen a car before. Young Bobby Sheldon was in love with a local girl. However, he had competition with a wealthier teen boy, whose family had an impressive horse-drawn carriage. Not to be outdone, Bobby got his hands on automobile diagrams, and built his own automobile from scratch. Bobby never did get the girl, but he did get recognition as Alaska’s first automobile manufacturer.
Please make your way to the TEMSCO Heli-base at 901 Terminal Way, Skagway, AK 99840.
