About this Hobart Tour
"Indulgence" is the word of the day. This foodie-and-fun-lovers' spectacular was cooked up for those who have an appetite for something more than just a quick bite of exotic experiences. Away from the hustle and bustle of Hobart proper, fill up on Bruny Island, an exquisite place some might regard as Earth's end. But for you? The delicious launch of an abundant epicurean adventure. Eat up, Down Under!
Rugged coastlines dominated by towering sea cliffs, broad bays, and scattered shipwrecks. Sweeping white, sandy beaches. Untamed rainforests and woodlands. Populations of native and rare wildlife…and around 620 humans. You'll relish plenty of time to ponder its heritage too, like that in the 1700s, explorers and Captains Cook, Bligh, Furneaux, and Bruni d´Entrecasteaux (its namesake) anchored in Adventure Bay.
Among the picturesque planks you'll walk is timber-stepped Truganini Lookout, leading to 360-degree views from "The Neck," the isthmus linking the island's two parts. Watch for waddling penguin colonies and swooping, short-tailed shearwaters. Scale Cape Bruny Lighthouse's spiral staircase. From this 1838 beacon once staffed by convicts, spot roving whales, plus albatross, Australian gannets, and other seabirds gliding above ocean swells.
Of course, you're also here to dive into this destination's delectable side. Nibble your way through the institutions that make it an award-winning, culinary rival of cosmopolitan Aussie cities. In season, pick and taste berries on a beachfront farm and enjoy fresh fruit ice cream. From luscious fudge in a "secret" confectionary to passionately crafted whisky, cider, and wine (for an added cost), you'll devour a parade of local pleasures.
With an aquatic panorama hailing you from every point of the compass, it's no surprise that locals harvest its bounty. At one stop, pop sweet, full-bodied, Pacific oysters at a homegrown farm and bar. Get Shucked sources its oysters from sustainable nursery farms and then suspends them in pristine D´Entrecasteaux Channel water to fatten them into big, briny nuggets. Total cultivation can take 12 months. One taste and you'll agree it's worth the wait.
Please proceed pier side and look for our GoBe Representative with the displayed logo sign.
Take precautions against seasickness with over-the-counter medication one hour before the tour if you are susceptible. Dress in layers _ it can get chilly on the water. Wine tastings and award winning Tasmanian Whisky can be enjoyed at a small extra cost.
This tour involves a moderate amount of walking (greater than one mile), with many steps to climb. It is not wheelchair accessible. Travelers with limited mobility may not see all sites fully but can participate at their discretion.
