About this Melbourne Tour
Thanks to Australia's remote location from the rest of the world, there are a plethora of animals that you won't see anywhere else in the world. Like penguins, kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, and others. Interact with the animals and let them tug at your heartstrings as you spend a day like none other.
Your tour starts in Melbourne's Federation Square, where you get picked up and driven past affluent homes in the suburbs, and then rural areas. The first stop is Maru Koala & Animal Park. This area started as a craft shop that added a few animals as attractions, then developed into a park that features koala, kangaroos, dingoes, wallabies, and reptiles.
Then you'll cross over to Phillip Island, 15 minutes away. This epic. As in craggy coastline with epic views of the water. And epic animals like the nation's largest fur seal colony at Seal Rocks. Tens of thousands of seals live on the island. The Nobbies, which are epic rock formations, are also a popular attraction, thanks to the animals in them.
You may have seen parades before, but wait until you go to the Summerland Beach to see the nightly penguin parade. Before the parade, check out the local information center to learn more about Little Penguins, the star species. Watch as the largest such colony in the world goes back to the beach after a long day fishing in the water. You've never seen anything like this spectacle, and you won't forget it.
The littlest penguin of all
Penguins aren't exactly known for their size, but the Little Penguin is particularly small; hence, the name. Even the adult members of the species only grow to about 13 inches or so, and weigh about two pounds. You can tell the difference between the male and female penguins by the beak. The female's beak is thinner, and the male's beak has a hook on the end of it. The birds are so popular that Little Penguin is the name of a top Australian wine.
Please make your own way to Federation Square
Take extra precautions to avoid too much exposure to the sun. Even on cloudy days, the UV is stronger than you may think.
