About This Buenos Aires Tour
Empanadas. Chorizo. Sweet alfajores. That famous steak and those delicious Malbec wines. All these tasty specialties are served in Buenos Aires, but you won't have to search the city to find them. GoBe's epicurean team brings on the feast – and the fun – at a popular Palermo dining spot, where your taste buds have so many ways to explore.
So grab your culinary passport to the city's Italian and Spanish heritage – its food culture, its history, and the artisans who keep traditions alive. Take empanadas, for example. They came to South America from Spain, and your enthusiastic guides show you how to make these tasty little turnovers with gourmet fillings and teach you the repulgue technique of adding a pattern to the pastry. Get creative, and you could win you a prize!
Argentina is famous for its steak, and you'll indulge in a top-of-the-line, thick-cut fillet (extra-tasty after a special 24-hour prep method), served with velvety mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. Relax and sip wine while we prep, cook, and serve. But you can lend a hand with dessert as we bake alfajores – cookies with dulce de leche, chocolate, and coconut – an easy, dreamy confection sure to impress dinner guests back home.
After dinner, we'll brew traditional mate tea and share conversations with guests and guides who share your passion for food and culinary heritage. Sipping your mate, you'll learn why it's more than a beverage – it's the national pastime. Even Starbucks took notice and opened its first Buenos Aires store with mate latte on the menu. In this city, eating and drinking traditions run deep. And it's all bueno.
Hanging in there
The Malbec wines you'll enjoy are from Mendoza, the country's largest wine-producing area. In this sunny, high-altitude region, grapes have the longest "hang time" in the world. This laid-back vineyard schedule produces wines with ripe fruit flavors, smooth tannins, and loads of powerful antioxidants called polyphenols. Argentine wines have the highest polyphenol counts on the planet. Just another reason they're phenomenal.
