What strange, wonderful, beautiful and exotic place is this?! Have you accidentally tripped into another continent? Nope. It's just that historic Puerto Varas, while geographically is still in Chile, was colonized and developed by German settlers. Known affectionately as the City of Roses, it's hard not to be enchanted by this town that you'd expect to stumble across exploring the Alps that retains its German culture, architecture and cuisine, right down to the dessert. But wait. That's not the Matterhorn over there. It's actually a volcano. Three of them, actually. It's a little hard to wrap your head around, but the lingua franca here is still Spanish and you are indeed still in South America. Enjoy. Explore. Chances are you'll never find a place that's quite this unique anywhere else in your travels, no matter how far and wide you travel.
