About This Safaga Tour
You can still feel the presence of the pharaohs. At the Temple of Luxor, the colossus of Amenhotep III (1390–1352 B.C.) and the obelisk of Ramses II (1279–1213 B.C.) command your attention as you enter. Like all pharaohs, they were considered gods on earth. Seeing their great temples, monuments, and tombs, you'll have no doubt about that.
Your GoBe guide will show you how these pharaohs, and those who came after them, left their mark at the Temple. That granite obelisk at the entry, for example, is inscribed with the achievements of Ramses II. You'll also discover how Alexander the Great redesigned part of this complex, and where Romans, Christians, and Muslims have worshipped over the centuries. The temple's stories, and wonders, unfold as you explore.
The tombs of the pharaohs are just as impressive. At the Valley of the Kings, nearly 70 magnificent tombs lie under a rocky gorge. (The tombs are open for visits on a rotating basis.) Uncovering the stories and artifacts here has kept archeologists busy for two centuries. You'll marvel at what they found as you enter the glorious tombs and admire the ornate wall carvings and paintings.
Surely the pharaohs took pleasure in the cool waters of their river. In this desert country, the Nile has been vital to civilization for centuries. Your lunch on this famous river – the world's longest – is a refreshing break as you explore Egypt's ancient world. You're on the most fabled of rivers in a graceful, historic boat, near some the world's most treasured sights. Now that's an epic lunch.
Egypt's traditional boats
Since the time of the pharaohs, the agile felucca has been the primary way to navigate the Nile. Despite modern alternatives, this sailboat still cruises the river, delighting both visitors and locals with a relaxing ride and the perfect way to catch the breezes on a warm day. The sails are simple and, instead of a keel, it has a heavy center plate that can be raised in the shallows – a design that's barely changed over the centuries.
Please exit the port terminal building or go to the end of the tender pier drop-off to meet your guide. Look for our displayed logo sign. Staying at a hotel? Be sure to advise the GoBe Crew so we can meet you in the lobby.
A motorized wagon train will transport you from the parking lot to the entrance gate of the Valley of the Kings, otherwise it's an uphill walk. The visit to the Tomb of King Tutankhamun at the Valley of the Kings requires an extra ticket, not included in the price of this tour.
The use of camera/video is totally prohibited at the Valley of the Kings and inside the tombs. The use of camera and video is free of charge at all other sites visited during this tour.
Plan to walk for about a mile. Expect uneven gravel ground with stones/boulders at the Valley of the Kings. If your mobility is limited, this tour may be too challenging for you to enjoy and maintain the pace of the group. It is not wheelchair accessible.
