At this time you can bring up any particular places you have in mind, or areas of interest you'd like to know more about – whether it's going to the Bund, visiting the Jade Buddha Temple, walking along Xin Tian Di or Nanjing Road, or anything else.
Part two of your Welcome Tour is going out with your guide on a walking tour of what is around where you're staying. Fun places to see. Good places to eat. And the opportunity to practice the Chinese phrases you just learned, while you still have your guide with you.
By the time you're done, you and your group will be ready to discover Shanghai in a fresh, new, and amazingly exciting way. Like a local.
Street food in the west is basically hot-dogs, pretzels, and churros. In Shanghai, they've taken it to a much higher level. With so many migrants from all over China, street food in Shanghai is a smorgasbord of tasty choices like pork dumplings (xian long bao), rice ball with duck egg and pork (ci fan tuan), radish fritters (you dunzi), scallion pancakes (cong you bing), and much more. You can eat like a king and never set foot in a restaurant.
Please meet in the lobby reception area of your hotel - your guide will be holding a sign with your name on it. You must confirm the name of your hotel at checkout, so we know where to pick you up. Your tour begins there.
As in many cities, keep your wallet or purse secured and leave the bling behind. In need of retail therapy after your tour? Your guide can advise you where to go in search of that "must have" souvenir to take home. Be sure to have some local currency and a backpack for all your great buys.
