About This Willemstad Tour
Whether you’re drawn to the zing of horsepower or the Zen of nature, this magical mystery tour is designed to blow your socks off, man. First, you’ll clamber aboard a 38-foot speedboat designed to punch through the waters and split the waves of the mighty Caribbean. Throttling up, you’ll be awed by the rocky crags, pastoral green slopes, and charming coves along the coastline. And oh, the mansions passing by! Glittering, sometimes sprawling testimonials on the lifestyles of the rich and famous.
Arriving winded - literally - you’ll hand-comb your hair, reach for the snorkeling gear, and slow things down at the famous Blue Room near Santu Pretu. Such an unassuming name for such a mind-blowing cave, where Rock of Ages meets Age of Aquarius. As you swim through its narrow, arched entrance, from which sunlight reflects off a white sand plateau, you’ll find yourself bathed in vivid blue lighting effects that Spielberg would envy. Nature’s nod to the psychedelic in Blue Room Cave.
Seriously. We’re talking electrically vivid. Back in the 70s, no teen’s room was complete without at least a handful of posters like Garden of Eden and Zonk, but what mattered most was the trippy blue glow of the black light that brought them to life. It’s this blue glow that mirrors the magic of Blue Room Cave. Go explorkeling beneath the crystal clear water to see silversides, lobsters, and schools of glassy-eyed sweepers darting through the rocky terrain.
Once you’ve plumbed the depths, you’ll be off to say, “Good Day, Sunshine” at two of the top tier beaches in Curacao. Then it’s back to the dock, where the words you’ll be looking for to describe your trip will invariably be, “Wow, far out!”
Beware of pirates
Like the pirate forefathers of many who call Curacao their home, there are some who still carry on the legacy with Blackbeardish enthusiasm. Which is why, according to locals, it’s best not to walk the winding trail to Blue Moon Cave alone or in pairs. Notorious for opportunistic thieves, there be a nip of danger lurking there … to wallets, cameras, purses and possessions, anyway. This is one tour that pays dividends, as your guides keep watch over your belongings.
