About this Charlotte Amalie tour
It's not scuba, and it's not snorkeling.
SNUBA is the best of both worlds, allowing you to stay underwater for long periods without the expensive training or equipment that scuba requires. You'll hear a few quick words of instruction and some tips on where to go, and then you'll head out.
There's plenty to take in. The coral reefs around St. Thomas are a living wonder that provide a home for thousands of different species. You'll swim right next to fish of all sizes, gorgeous plants, and maybe even an octopus or sea turtle. Since the protected area you'll be diving in is open to the sea, all kinds of sea creatures drop by.
SNUBA might sound like a hybrid of snorkeling and scuba diving, but it's really an acronym for the device that you use to breathe: a Surface Nexus Underwater Breathing Apparatus. SNUBA was invented in 1987 by Michael Stafford, a California diving enthusiast who wanted an easier way for people to connect with the world's oceans.
