About This Puerto Limon Tour
Embark on a wondrous journey to Veragua Rainforest Adventure Park, a 400-acre rainforest mountain reserve in Costa Rica. Labeled as the “Cream of the Cream of the Rainforest”, by National Geographic Traveler, its lush greenery is a nature lover’s tropical dream!
Your Costa Rican adventure begins at your Puerto Limon cruise ship terminal, where you will meet your English-speaking guide. From there, you will hop on a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle for a short one-hour ride. Nature guides aboard will be sharing local history and telling you all about the fascinating natural wonders you will soon see.
Upon arriving at the park’s Welcome Center, you´ll walk through the snake exhibit and encounter exotic iguanas, lizards and the famous Costa Rica snakes! The center also houses one of the world largest frog exhibits and a butterfly garden filled with rare and colorful species. You will also stop by the Veragua Foundation and meet the biologists who will provide you with plentiful knowledge of the rainforest ecosystem.
Later, make sure you have your cameras ready as you gaze out into amazing panoramic views, of the rainforest canopy, aboard the sky tram. Watch for toucans, sloths, and listen for howler monkeys as you descend the mountain to the riverbank. Once off the tram, walk through a trail of centuries-old trees or hike to the magnificent 60-foot Puma Waterfall. Your adventure will end once you return to the Welcome Center, enjoy a yummy lunch and head back to your Puerto Limon cruise ship pier.
A Habitat for Humanity
Rainforests cover less than two percent of the Earth's total surface area, yet they are home to 50 percent of the planet’s plants and animals—an estimated 70 percent of tropical rainforest plants are used in cancer and HIV treatment.
