From the outside, the Kunsthistorisches Museum – or Museum of Art History – is both alluring and intimidating. The immense structure, opened in 1891, was necessary to hold the art collection of the Habsburgs.

Inside, the building is dramatically decorated with marble, gold leaf, ornamentations, and of course, paintings. The works in the museum place it on par with the Louvre, the British Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
