      About this Tallinn tour

Your tour begins on Toompea Hill in Upper Old Town, home to Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, a masterpiece of Russian Revival architecture, and the remarkably preserved Gothic St. Mary's Cathedral. These architectural marvels must compete for your favor against an exhilarating roofscape view of the city.

You will then pass through Kadriorg Park, built on the orders of Russian Czar Peter the Great in 1718 and guarded by the famous statue of a mermaid commanding the sea. Beyond the park you will visit the home of the Estonia Song Festival, which started as an engine for reawakening Estonian nationalism and has since hosted such artists as Madonna, Metallica, and Michael Jackson. You'll understand why the Festival led to independence from the Soviet Union as you walk the grounds, and imagine them ringing with the sound of 18,000 people singing at once.

      Hoarder's heaven

Tallinn's flea markets manage to impress collectors and bargain-shoppers alike. Selling everything from fine linen to organic produce to Soviet memorabilia, Tallinn has flea markets at a train station, at the football stadium, and in abandoned factories converted into rows of stall space. One flea market even has its own skating rink.
