The story of how this sleepy little French village became an inspiration to Claude Monet and home for the second half of his life is almost as endearing as the town and landscape itself. It's safe to say that Monet discovering Giverny by accident and falling in love with its unspoiled beauty and charm helped to put this place on the travel map, but the area does boast two millennia of history to explore. You'll soon see why so many of his fellow impressionists flocked here and he spent the remainder of his life near to his beloved garden.
