Tour Participation Requirements
If you're coming to Paris for the first (or the 957th) time, there are just some monuments, squares, bridges, and thoroughfares that should not be missed. On this comprehensive land and water tour, you'll see them all and learn about them all through a smart, guided commentary on the history and heritage of everything in sight. It's available in multiple languages. There's even a separate commentary to keep the kids interested and learning.
Hop on the cozy, air-conditioned motor coach for some of the best views of the city's best landmarks. Peer upon the Place Vendome Square. Sing the praises of the Opera House. Fall in love with the Louvre. Give a nod to Notre Dame Cathedral. Pay your respects at the Pantheon. Picture yourself living large in Luxembourg Palace and Gardens. Ogle the Orsay Museum. Pant over Place de la Concorde Square. Get charmed by the Champs-Elysees. Gawk over the Arc de Triomphe. Grab an eyeful of the Eiffel Tower. And say "bonjour" to Napoleon at Les Invalides.
Permission to board, granted. Because next you'll be cruising along the Seine in a fully glassed-in boat for an entirely new perspective on the Louvre, the Orsay, and Notre Dame. You'll also get a gander at yet another Parisian treasure. The Conciergerie is the medieval palace that was once the prison of Marie Antoinette, the royal famously (but wrongly) accused of saying, "Let them eat cake." (More on that below.) Luckily, with this land and water tour, you can have your cake and eat it, too!
Did she or didn't she?
Marie Antoinette has been hated for ages for infamously responding, "Let them eat cake" when she was told that her royal subjects had no bread back in 1789. According to Lady Antonia Fraser, a biographer and staunch Marie Antoinette supporter, however, history's most notorious shrew was wrongly accused. Fraser has attributed the snide and mean-spirited quote to Marie Therese, a Spanish princess, who said it 100 years earlier. So not sweet!
