      • About the region: During the Renaissance, the Loire River Valley was a favorite destination of French kings and their courtiers to escape the hustle and bustle of court life. The fortunate result of these excursions is the historic, elegant castles and architectural masterpieces that remain.
      • Day 1: Head south of Paris into the French countryside down the Aquitaine motorway. Your first stop will be Amboise Castle, a beautiful chateau overlooking the Loire River and an excellent introduction to the history of the region. Use your free time to enjoy lunch. Our afternoon will continue with a guided tour of the Clos-Lucé, Leonardo da Vinci ’s last dwelling and the gardens of Villandry. Then, continue to the city of Tours for a guided tour of the historic district. You’ll finish your day with dinner and lodging at a three-star hotel.
      • Day 2: Travel from Tours to Chenonceau, a stunning Renaissance castle which stretches out across the Cher River and is unlike anything you’ve ever seen. After a guided tour, you’ll continue to Château de Cheverny. Enjoy a guided tour of the castle followed by lunch. Your final stop through the Loire River Valley is at the impressive royal Château de Chambord, which features a staircase built by Leonardo da Vinci.
