It's no wonder the Chateaux of the Loire Valley have been collectively awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status. These grand stone giants dot the breathtaking countryside, placing this spectacular destination into a class all its own. At each of today's stops, you'll revel in an enlightening tour lasting between 45 minutes to one hour – and then indulge in free time to seek out your own secret corners.

Arriving at Chateau de Chambord, be awed by one of the largest and most distinctive chateaux in the Loire Valley. This 16th-century palace was built for young King Francois I, rising up out of the Sologne region's swampy lowlands. Note the keep's four massive corner towers looming over the courtyard and, inside, the amazing double-helix staircase.
You could almost be dreaming as Chateau de Chenonceau materializes over the River Cher. Its fairytale style bears witness to a sophisticated and classically French flair. Imagine sumptuously furnished rooms, rare Flanders tapestries, Old Masters paintings, and fabulous kitchens housed in the piers of the bridge that supports the chateau.
Charming and "intimate" Chateau de Cheverny enchants, a fine estate that's been lived in by every generation of the same family for over six centuries. So, what was life like during the Renaissance heyday of these regal residences? What did it mean to spend the season cavorting among the courts of the Kings of France? On this special occasion, you'll come as close as you can to experiencing it for yourself!

"The iron, but very feminine, fist in the velvet glove"
Nicknamed the "Ladies’ Castle," Chenonceau was built in 1513 by Katherine Briconnet, then loved, lived in, embellished, and protected by a long line of extraordinary women. Including Diane de Poitiers, Catherine de Medici, and Madame Dupin, their history-making touch has always preserved “Chateau des Dames” during tough times. Even through conflict and war, Chenonceau endures as a dwelling of beauty and peace.
