The city of Paris has over 20 different neighborhoods, called arrondissements. Each arrondissement seems to have its own unique character, style, and culture. One of these artistic neighborhoods is the area of Montmartre, located in Paris's 18th arrondissement in the northern section of the city. The white-domed Basilica of the Sacre-Coeur stands tall as an iconic site of this distinctive area.
Your friendly guide will welcome you at the Tourist Information's Kiosk located in front of the Anvers metro station. From there your guide will show you the quaint, small streets of the Monmartre neighborhood. You will discover the lively Place du Tertre, a notable square where many painters, portraitists, and caricaturists demonstrate their talents. Perhaps one of these talented individuals will paint a picture of you!
Your guide will bring you to other exciting places in Montmartre including another beautiful square called the Place du Calvaire, the famous Vignes de Montmartre, the 17th century windmill Moulin de la Galette, and the bustling Abbesses quarter with the Rue Lepic, a charming ancient road. Your wonderful walking tour will end in front of Moulin Rouge Cabaret. Feel the excitement of the city through the charismatic area of Montmartre!
      An Icon from Brown Bread

In the 19th century, the Debray family acquired the Moulin de la Galette for producing flour. They created a brown bread, called galette, that became popular and thus the name of the windmill. Some of the other businesses near the windmill included a famous guingette and restaurant. At the end of the Napoleonic Wars in 1814, three of the Debray men lost their lives defending the windmill in the siege of Paris.
