The city of Paris has over 20 different neighborhoods, called arrondissements. Each arrondissement seems to have its own unique character, style, and culture. One of these artistic neighborhoods is the area of Montmartre, located in Paris's 18th arrondissement in the northern section of the city. The white-domed Basilica of the Sacre-Coeur stands tall as an iconic site of this distinctive area.

Your friendly guide will welcome you at the Tourist Information's Kiosk located in front of the Anvers metro station. An Icon from Brown Bread

In the 19th century, the Debray family acquired the Moulin de la Galette for producing flour. They created a brown bread, called galette, that became popular and thus the name of the windmill. Some of the other businesses near the windmill included a famous guingette and restaurant. At the end of the Napoleonic Wars in 1814, three of the Debray men lost their lives defending the windmill in the siege of Paris.
