About This Berlin Tour
No question will go unanswered on this guided walking tour, which fits Berlin’s best bits into four hours. Upon meeting your guide in front of the Reichstag building, you will be led to important squares like Potsdam Square, Bebelplatz and Paris Square. If you explore Pariserplatz you’ll come across the U.S. Embassy, Academy of Arts, French Embassy and Haus Liebermann. From here you can set off towards Brandenburg Gate.
Back in 1791, one of Germany’s most significant monuments was built. Also known by its nicknames “Athens of the Spree” and “Spreeathen,” the 18th-century neoclassical monument has seen Napoleon pass through its columns and President Reagan make his “Berlin Wall” speech in front of it.
A moment spent at the city’s last remaining gate will give you an insight into history spanning hundreds of years, as will Checkpoint Charlie and the authentic remnants of the Berlin Wall. Some people fled the East by flying, driving a speeding train or simply jumping over the wall, whereas others were shot down.
Victims of Hitler’s outrageous National Socialist movement are remembered at the Holocaust Memorial. After delving into the tragic past at Topography of Terror and the site of Hitler’s bunker, gaze at the architecture of the New Guardhouse, St. Hedwig Cathedral and Berlin’s oldest university, Humboldt University.
Haunting Holocaust Facts
September 15th, 1935 was a defining day for Germany and its Jewish community, because this was when Nuremberg Laws were put into action. No longer were Jews allowed to legally marry Germans or enjoy the privileges of citizenship. To make them easier to target during World War II, Jews were ordered by Nazis to adorn a Star of David and approximately two-thirds of Europe’s Jewish community was killed by the Nazis during World War II.
Please make your way to the Reichstag Building (West Side), right at the flag pole of the huge German Flag to meet our GoBe Representative.
