Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate & the Reichstag Building with Private Guide
- Brandenburg Gate: A symbol of Germany and Europe’s tempestuous past, the gate was commissioned by King Frederick William II of Prussia to signify peace.
- Paris Square: Walk to the end of Boulevard “Unter den Linden” and you’ll find yourself at Pariser Platz, where the French and US Embassies sit.
- Tiergarten Park: An inner-city park that proves popular with the locals and tourists, this 520-acre space is the “green lung of the metropolis”.
- Reichstag Building: Fires, restorations, Nazi meetings – this building’s history runs deep. Step inside and inspect the Soviet graffiti on its sooty walls. Enjoy a tea or coffee here for an additional fee.
About This Berlin Tour
What better place to begin a tour of Berlin’s landmarks than at its most famous one? Brandenburg Gate miraculously survived World War II. The only town gate left in the city, this distinguished attraction represents the turmoil, prosperity and peace that Germany has encountered over the last 200 years.
Meet your private guide outside the Brandenburg Gate and learn all about the historical background of this incredible structure. Have your photo taken in front of the architectural wonder that played a big role in Cold War history, ahead of your journey to
Paris Square. This focal point is known as Pariser Platz and it sits behind Brandenburg Gate. In the south vicinity of Pariser Platz is the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, where 2,711 concrete slabs are speckled around the grounds. Reflect on Germany’s history here by taking a leisurely stroll around Tiergarten Park. Berlin’s oldest and largest green space, it is home to the Victory Column and picturesque walking paths.
Flanked by Haus Liebermann, Hotel Adlon, Berlin Academy of Arts and embassy buildings, the Reichstag Building can be found in its north vicinity.
Relax and gaze at views of the parliamentary district from the 230-meter high glass dome inside Reichstag. Your guide will give you a very special perspective of German history and you will enjoy some relaxation time over a couple of tea or coffee in its elegant restaurant. The seat of the German parliament, the building boasts a rooftop restaurant. War was declared from Reichstag, which was partly destroyed by a fire on February 27, 1933.
Images of the Berlin Wall come to mind when most people think about Berlin, but the metropolis is also acknowledged for many other reasons. Europe’s first set of traffic lights were erected on Potsdamer Platz in 1924 and since the war, six US presidents have made memorable speeches in the city.
