      About This Berlin Tour

Your private vehicle and driver-guide will pick you up from either your Berlin or Potsdam city hotel or from within the city center convenient for yourself.

It’s hard not to think about Martin Luther King when you are in the city where the legendary writer once lived. Wittenburg is home to the world’s biggest reformation history museum – a museum that you will have the chance to step inside on this tour. Formerly MLK’s residence, the UNESCO World Heritage site dates back to the 1500s, when it was used as an Augustinian monastery.

On your guided city walk learn about MLK’s birth, his last moments and how his work inspired people as you browse 1,000 exhibits. Pieces of furniture, printed books, manuscripts, medals and coins are just a few examples of the artifacts on display. The statue of Martin Luther King that stands on Old Market Square commemorates the life of the man who shaped history.

Architecturally fascinating, the square is better known as Markplatz. Its parallel streets lure in people from around the world and a notable attraction that can be found on the territory is Historical City Hall. Mayors in the metro area gather inside this listed building, which sometimes hosts high society events. The most impressive building of them all, however, is Melanchthon House. This Renaissance-style landmark was commissioned by the Elector of Saxony, John Frederick I.

It’s not surprising that the people living in the metropolis are well educated, what with it boasting highly acclaimed Wittenburg University. Founded by Elector Frederick in 1502, the university attracted the likes of Martin Luther King, leading to Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) being founded.

Mixing the new with the old

Although bombings resulted in much of Berlin’s historical center being destroyed, remnants of the middle ages still stand. Pieces of the medieval city walls can be seen along Littenstraße and Stresemannstraße. At Nikolai Quarter (Berlin’s oldest residential area), the restaurants, bars and lanes all have a medieval vibe, as does Stralau Village Church in Friedrichshain.
