About This Berlin Tour
Enjoy a bike ride along one of Berlin’s most famous avenues on this tour, which will involve a brief stop at Boulevard "Unter den Linden". Rent a bike from your hotel, or, for an additional cost, we can have your bike delivered to you. Your private guide will then pick you up from your hotel and lead you to the city’s historic heart. This street extends towards the neoclassical Brandenburg Gate, beautiful Gendarmenmarkt Square and French-influenced Pariser Platz.
Since the war, the boulevard has come back to life. Admire its grand transformation before cycling to the Governmental Quarter. A variation of buildings used by parliamentary members is snuggled into this quarter. Spare some time to wander around Potsdam Square and see remnants of the Berlin Wall near Checkpoint Charlie.
Any questions you may have regarding Nazi Germany will be answered outside the Holocaust Memorial, and Topography of Terror’s indoor and outdoor museum. Continue cycling on the road to the former Jewish Quarter to view the “Book Burning Memorial", German State Opera House, Humboldt University and Tempelhof Airport, which is now a public park.
History and religion runs deep in Berlin and this is reflected at Berlin Cathedral, Palace of Charlottenburg, City Palace, St. Hedwig Cathedral and Museum Island. Ancient Egyptian artifacts and classical antiques are displayed inside five museums on this island. Step back even further in time at Kurfürstendamm, where the first ever steam-powered train rambled along the avenue.
Stick to hostile takeovers
The Nazi Party devised a plan in 1939 to counterfeit the British pound. Their aim was to cause devaluation by releasing the counterfeit money into the economy. It was called Operation Bernhard and was the largest counterfeiting scheme in the history of economic welfare. It was the perfect time to strike, seeing as the Brits were severely weakened by the call to war. It is said some £132 million worth of fake money was manufactured at German concentration camps.
Please meet in the lobby/reception area of your hotel. Be sure to indicate the name of your hotel at check-out so we know where to meet you. Your guide will be holding a sign with GoBe or your name on it.
Bring small coins for the bathroom. Take a light jacket or rain coat for the weather. Be aware that when it's windy, an umbrella might be risky!
The bike ride is leisurely but you are cycling for over 7.5 hours. Make sure you are ready to be in the saddle and peddle for the duration. Safety helmets must be worn. Leave your earphones and music for another time.
