Roman Empire and Ancient Celts History Private Tour
Tour Participation Requirements
If you have an ongoing love affair with the spirit of discovery, this adventure has your name written all over it. From the comfort of a luxury sedan (or van, depending on group size) this private expedition enables you to travel back in time and examine the spectacular wonders and long-lost secrets of the Roman and Celtic cultures.
Get a unique glimpse of the Limes in the Taunus hills. Dating back to the 2nd century, these barriers marked the frontier between Rome's Empire and the Germanic tribal territories. Explore the reconstruction of the mighty walled fortress at Saalburg, which once housed 600 Roman soldiers. Archaeological finds and displays reveal the lives of those soldiers and the village residents outside the fort gates.
Want to experience a bit of ancient Roman hospitality? Have lunch onsite at the Museum Cafe Taberna (at your own expense.) Designed according to ancient models, the Taberna features kitchen fittings and dishes from ancient Rome along with treats from the modern kitchen.
A forgotten way of life is yours to discover at the Celtic Museum at Glauberg, situated on lands settled by humans as early as the late Stone Age. Take a guided walk through the exhibition and excavation areas where finds from three Celtic burials from the 5th century BC and the statue of a Celtic ruler have caused an archaeological sensation. Wandering in ancient footsteps can be an almost otherworldly experience. We can't wait to share that with you.
From Celtic Druids to Christmas kisses
Kissing under sprigs of mistletoe is a well-known holiday tradition, but this plant's romantic overtones began with the Celtic Druids of the 1st century. Because mistletoe could blossom even during the frozen winter, the Druids viewed it as a sacred symbol of vivacity, administering it to humans and animals alike in the hope of restoring fertility. If you've ever met someone special under the mistletoe, thank a Druid.
