About This Munich Tour
Its calm ambiance, unique appearance and rich history are what make the Royal Summer Palace at Nymphenburg such a popular tourist destination. Following 10 years of being married, Bavarian Elector Ferdinand Maria and Henriette Adelaide of Savoy welcomed Max Emanuel into the world. Emanuel, the long-awaited heir to the throne, spent his summers here thereafter.
The magnificent structure’s present-day appearance was acquired by Emanuel and Henrico Zuccalli, the court architect. Erected on either side were two off-set pavilions. Construction work came to a halt during the Spanish War of Succession’s conflicts between 1701 and 1714. However, expansion continued in 1715, giving the mansion a Baroque style.
When you witness the vaulted ceiling and lavishly decorated interior, you will realize why it is considered one of the most alluring European architectural creations of its time. Plenty of attention was paid to the park too, with statues depicting the gods of Olympus beautifying the Grand Parterre.
You will spend around two hours wandering the flawless grounds, where musical readings, outdoor concerts and opera performances take place throughout the seasons. Fascinating approximately 300,000 visitors annually, the land enveloping what is also known as "Charlottenburg Palace" or "Schoenbrunn Palace" features a lake and English-style gardens.
Nature Attractions in Munich
If your walk around the Park of the Royal Summer Palace makes you want to get outside more and discover more of Munich’s natural landscape, Tierpark Hellabrunn won’t disappoint. Other nature attractions include Botanischer Garten Muenchen-Nymphenburg, Flaucher Beach, Maximilian Park, Luitpold Park and Hofgarten, which is a garden that is snuggled into Munich’s center. Since the 1960s, Otspark has been open to members of the public and it features a beer garden, flying fox and climbing facilities! For a true marine life experience, venture to SEA LIFE.
