About This Munich Tour
You don’t have to be a football fan to be astounded by the magnificent architecture of Allianz-Arena. With a capacity of 75,000 seated and 15,000 standing, the colossal stadium is one of Munich’s largest structures. A replacement for the old Olympiastadion, it proudly hosted the 2006 World Cup and the 2012 Champions League Final.
Acknowledged as one of the finest stadiums in the world, its foundation stone was laid on October 21, 2002. Visitors are given a comprehensive introduction to the arena daily from 10:00 am-6:00 pm. Designed with a lower tier, middle tier, upper tier, business seats and VIP boxes, its special seats suit the physically impaired.
Let an expert guide show you around the home of Bayern Munich. A masterpiece by Swiss architects Herzog and de Meuron, you can marvel at this award-winning construction and the 190 monitors on its pitch, which is illuminated by 232 floodlights. Inside the arena is a restaurant, media areas and player changing rooms.
A ‘world of experience’ awaits you at “FC Bayern Erlebniswelt” – a three-quarter-acre exhibition that shines a light on the club’s history. Spanning 110 years, the focal points of this champion team’s past can be discovered by listening to tournament songs, viewing original trophies and watching interactive exhibits.
Football’s Early Beginnings
The game of football is as popular today as it was over 100 years ago. England was the birthplace of this sport, with it being played for the first time in 1863. Soon after, the sport’s first governing body (the Football Association in England) was formed. Although kicking a ball around was enjoyed years before the invention of football, the English focused on a technique involving controlling the ball. Japanese Kemari is a different form of the recreational activity, minus the competitive aspect. Scientific evidence also proves that a similar game was used for Chinese Military training in the 3rd century BC.
