Dolphin Sightseeing Cruise Around The Rock of Gibraltar
- Dolphin spotting: Beautiful Marina Bay is Europe's top spot to see this playful species. Look for families of striped, bottle-nosed, and common dolphin.
- Marine creatures: With a perfect Mediterranean climate, these waters also attract seven species of whales, flying fish, turtles, sunfish, and a variety of seabirds.
- Pleasure Cruiser: Sit back with spacious, comfortable frontline seating and clear views for all guests as you tour one of the world's most scenic and historic bays.
About this Gibraltar tour
They may be called common, but they're anything but that. The sociable common dolphins are likely to swim up to your Pleasure Cruiser to take a closer look at you. (You'll wonder just who's taking a sightseeing tour – you or these curious cetaceans.) You may get to see them hanging out for a while, surfing waves created by the boat and showing off the distinctive yellow hourglass markings on their sleek sides.
You'll know the slender striped dolphins by the bold racing stripes that seem to enhance their streamlined shape. They put on quite a show as they leap exuberantly from the water. Bottlenose dolphins are the big guys, with adults weighing up to 1500 pounds. And if ecstatic acrobatics are any clue, they look like they take immense joy in life too.
These playful creatures – and their favorite playgrounds – keep your captain and crew in high spirits. They'll happily share what they know about the amazing mammals that flock to the Rock for its temperate climate and clean waters. The endless daily buffet – sardines, mackerel, and flying fish – is mighty popular too.
Your captain and crew are proud that all the dolphins and marine creatures you'll see on this tour live 100 percent free and wild in the bay. They'll make sure you get close enough to safely connect with these beloved aquatic animals with minimal intrusion to their habitat. In this bay, you're the guests and the wild dolphins are happily at home.
Can you sing: "No one you see is smarter than he"?
That's a line from the theme song of the popular TV show, Flipper – a lyric that doesn't lie. Dolphins have the second most powerful and complex brain (next to the humans, of course). Scientists have demonstrated that dolphins can communicate both verbally and nonverbally. And they even use tools. Bottlenose dolphins, for example, break sponges off the seafloor and use them to protect their snout as they probe the seabed for food.
