      Helpful hints

This tour does not include a guide, lunch or entrance fees. An escort will be on the coach to and from Athens. If you should miss the return coach, transportation back to the vessel will be at your own responsibility and at your own expense. No tripods, professional cameras or large backpacks are allowed inside the Acropolis. However, lockers are available both inside the Acropolis & the New Acropolis Museum. Photos are allowed to be taken on the 3rd floor only. Please be aware that ongoing restorations work is often carried out at the Acropolis. Depending upon the number of people at the Acropolis, it may be closed for security reasons so delays may occur.

      Tour Participation Requirements

      Activity Level

This experience is rated moderate. Full participation may require extended periods of walking over even and uneven surfaces, steep terrain and/or water activity in a slight current. There may be steps, inclines, cobblestone surfaces, and extended periods of standing. Participants with physical limitations should take this into account.

      Age restrictions

      Suitable for all ages.

Odysseus, hero of Homer's epic Odyssey, was many things: courageous. Cunning. Resourceful. He was not, however, great at sticking to an itinerary. It took him 10 years to get home after the fall of Troy, delayed by seductive nymphs, a six-headed monster, and a one-eyed, man-eating giant.

For some, that's the essence of travel – unexpected encounters that make for great adventure. And if you're that kind of traveler, this is your kind of tour. It takes you to Syntagma Square, in the heart of Athens; on the way, you'll get a helpful Athens orientation, suggestions on what to do, and your return time. Then you'll have five hours for your own personal mini-odyssey.

Syntagma is the perfect starting point, near Parliament, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, and the stadium built for the return of the Olympics to Greece in 1896. Watch the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, stroll through the National Gardens, or browse the boutiques and restaurants of the trendy Ermou shopping district. The Acropolis and the ancient Agora are also within reach.

If you're really daring, Athens has one of the world's most impressive metro systems, and there's a station at the square. Plenty of taxis, too. Just allow enough time to get back; Athens traffic can be a real monster.

      Odyssey in Athens

Taxis are relatively inexpensive in Athens, and don't be surprised if they're already occupied – drivers ask where you're going, and you may be able to share the ride. Just know that cabbies think of traffic laws as quaint suggestions, and that they often go on strike, as do transit workers; in the city that gave the world democracy, citizens demand their rights frequently and energetically.

Full refunds issued for cancellations made 7 full days prior to the date and time of requested services. Cancellations made within the 7-day and 72-hour window will receive a 50% refund of purchase total. Purchases are non-refundable inside of 72 hours.
