About this Florence Tour
Italians love their Vespas and even have an affectionate nickname for fans of the stylish scooters: Vespisti. Discover why as you zip through the endless vine-covered valleys, cypress-dotted hills, and flower-bright fields of Tuscany. You'll travel like a local, and feel just as confident, as your expert GoBe guide shares driving tips and leads you on a fun exploration of Chianti.
This Vespa rally takes you into the heart of wine country, where vintners proudly continue a heritage that's centuries old. Since the 1300s, this region has cultivated the Sangiovese grape that gives Chianti's wines their distinctive character. And you'll taste the aromatic ruby reds with earthy, fruity notes that showcase the Sangiovese grape in all its glory.
You won't have long to wait. Soon your guide will signal a turn off and, in true Tuscan style, you'll pause for a leisurely lunch. At a legendary farm, taste the fruits and time-honored customs of the land. You'll uncork some of the region's winemaking secrets, tuck into a lunch of traditional fare, and treat your senses to delicious samples of Chianti's famous, food-friendly wines.
The exploration continues in the afternoon on a tour that carves through incredible scenery with stops for killer views and a few sure-to-please surprises. Only the best two-wheel ride around could take you on a Tuscan adventure like this. But you get that. Now that you're a Vespista too.
Millions and millions sold
The popular Vespa ("wasp" in Italian) publicly debuted at the 1946 Milan Fair. Since then, 18 million have sold on five continents. The scooter's style, comfort, and gas-sipping ways (up to 100 mpg) helped sales. But a big boost came from Hollywood in 1952, when the movie Roman Holiday featured Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck on a romantic ride through the Eternal City. That scene resulted in more than 100,000 sales.
Please make your way inside Santa Maria Novella train station, Florence, to the front of the pharmacy with the green cross, to meet your tour guide.
A valid driver's license is required to drive a Vespa so don't forget yours.
