      About this Florence Tour

Italy is unquestionably one of the best countries in the world to see great art. And Florence is arguably the best city for lovers of the classics, such as works by Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and Botticelli. The Uffizi Gallery cannot fail to impress even the most casual art lover with its collection of pieces you've probably been reading about and seeing on TV all your life.

Come inside and get acquainted with the Uffizi on this one-hour guided exploration. The list of names you'll encounter is nothing if not impressive: Cimabue, Giotto, Botticelli, Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Titian…and that's just the tip of the iceberg. With paintings dating from the 1100s through the 1600s and long, sculpture-lined corridors, the Uffizi really has something for everyone. The Renaissance began in Florence, and a visit to the Uffizi makes it clear why.

Your tour guide will take you to see the highlights of the museum, explaining the history of the most famous pieces and the stories of their creators. Compare masterworks side by side to gain a nuanced understanding of the different techniques used by artists and the natural development of art, one style building on another until something new is created.

At the conclusion of your guided tour, you can return to what you've seen and take your time admiring the works of the Masters. Or explore the rest of the gallery and find some new favorites. Either way, time spent here soaking in the life and color of the art on display is time well spent indeed.

Ever get the feeling you were being watched?

The Uffizi Gallery was not always a world-class art museum. It was built in the 1500s as an "uffizi" or "offices" by the Medici family, the wealthy rulers of Tuscany. Now being in charge can make you a lot of enemies, and the Medici family had plenty. Cosimo de' Medici therefore had a secret passage built from his home in the Palazzo Pitti across the Ponte Vecchio and over to the Uffizi and Palazzo Vecchio. The Vasari Corridor even opened onto a church so the Medicis could attend Mass unseen. Imagine being one of only a handful of people in on this secret as you explore the corridor.
