      About This Pisa Tour

In Florence, a flourishing rebirth of literature and arts lit a glorious path out of the long, dark middle ages. This city was an endless wellspring of creative genius from the 13th to the 16th centuries as lively mix of writers, painters, architects, and philosophers sparked a model of Renaissance culture. Join GoBe to admire the city's masterpieces and understand its legacy.

Stroll across the Arno on Florence's oldest bridge, the romantic Ponte Vecchio, where goldsmiths' and jewelry shops have displayed glittering wares since the 1500s. Wander among magnificent palaces and strike your pose with statues in the Uffizi Gallery courtyard. The grand Uffizi (which means "offices" in Italian) once housed city dignitaries and now holds some of the most precious art on the planet.

Stand before the bronze doors of the Baptistery and understand how the artistry of these "Gates of Paradise" led to the ideas of the Renaissance. Gaze at the vast Duomo (it holds 20,000 people) and hear how Brunelleschi's red-tiled dome reinvented architecture when he completed his work of genius in 1436.

Wander squares adorned with fountains and statues and spot the replica of Michelangelo's famous David outside the Palazzo Vecchio (the original is close by in the Galleria dell'Accademia.) Florence's celebrated native son created his gleaming marble masterwork when he was just 26 years old. He and his fellow Renaissance men created a city that is a work of art in itself.

Locking down the Ponte Vecchio legend

Thousands of couples have come to the atmospheric Ponte Vecchio Bridge because of an old legend. It claims that if lovers attach a padlock to the bridge and throw the key in the river, their love will last forever. The legend may have been encouraged by a locksmith who had a shop nearby. But the practice is now discouraged by the city (and a hefty fine) because massive numbers of padlocks don't promise a happy future for this old bridge.
