      About This Sorrento Tour

There's sightseeing, and then there's flightseeing. Imagine what it's like to see some of the best scenery in Italy via helicopter, then land to see the area in both a rowboat and on foot. That's what you'll get in this tour of the Gulf of Naples, the Amalfi Coast, and the Island of Capri.

The tour starts from Sorrento with a helicopter flight over Positano, a scenic fishing village on the Amalfi Coast. You may remember the location from the movie Under the Tuscan Sun. The Dolomitic cliffs of the Italian Alps add to the breathtaking views. Then you'll see Pompeii and Herculaneum. Both towns were in ruins thanks to Mt. Vesuvius' eruption. After that, it's on to Capri, where the tour continues on land and boat.

Ahhh, Capri. Just hearing the name of the city makes you think of the sun, and cool-looking comfortable pants, motor scooters, and scenery out of a 1960's Italian film. It's even more amazing in person. There's a reason this island has been a vacation playground since ancient Roman days. In fact, Caesar Augustus himself was so amazed by Capri that he traded with the city of Naples in order to get it.

The Blue Grotto (Grotta Azaurra in Italian) is the standout of this tour. It's a sea cave that was once Emperor Tiberius' swimming hole. Weather permitting, you'll get to explore this amazing spot and gaze at its turquoise waters via rowboat (visiting Axel Munthe’s Villa, San Michele, is the equally compelling substitute event if this portion of the tour is cancelled). Then meander through Capri's streets before heading back to Sorrento. La dolce vita indeed.

      Salad days

Ever eat a Caprese salad? The name, and recipe, come from the isle of Capri. A traditional Caprese salad consists of mozzarella (cow's milk or buffalo), tomatoes, and basil, and seasoned with salt and olive oil. Like margherita pizza, which also has mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil, the colors of a Caprese salad are designed to represent the Italian flag. Who knew national pride could be so delicious?
